This will be the fourth Double XP Weekend event since the free-to-play game’s release date in October 2022. At the time, Blizzard started the event as a way to apologize to gamers for Overwatch 2’s messy launch day issues, such as the server disconnects caused by a huge number of players trying to log in, coupled with a bunch of DDoS attacks.

Fortunately, there are no such problems this time. According to Blizzard, the Double XP Weekend will last from January 6 – 11:00 AM PDT until January 9 – 11:00 AM PDT. As a result, Overwatch 2 players will have only a few days available to take advantage of all the event has to offer. However, it is important to note that any challenge XP or XP from endorsements will remain the same, as only XP gained from playing matches will be doubled.

This Double XP event is being used to celebrate and promote the latest Overwatch 2 game mode titled Battle for Olympus. Spanning from January 6 to January 19, the free-for-all deathmatch features seven heroes, each sporting special Greek mythology-themed skins and Ultimate Abilities. Players will also have the chance to immortalize their chosen hero, as long as they manage to achieve the highest number of kills overall from the event. As a way to remember their epic victory, the hero’s statue will be placed on the map of the arena in Ilios Ruins. Gamers can also complete special challenges that allow them to claim free rewards such as new titles, voice lines, or even skins.

Special events like these are always beneficial because they can encourage gamers to spend more time playing while being able to skip a significant part of the required grind necessary for achieving the maximum level of Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass. Hopefully, this event will allow players to progress faster in order to unlock all the available goodies of the season, including the Mythic Zeus Junker Queen skin, which is available as a reward for reaching tier 80 of the premium Battle Pass.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
