Gameplay for what Blizzard calls “Overwatch 2’s first Tempo Tank” was shown in a new trailer showing off Ramattra’s terrifying power. The tank that can perform different moves unique to either of its forms could significantly change the way Overwatch 2 is played once he’s in the game. Overwatch 2 developers describe his play style as “complex and multifaceted, mirroring his history and ideals.”

Ramattra’s moves in its two forms are built around habits Overwatch 2 players get into. The Omnic form has a shield and his staff is a projectile of nanite particles which the developers say will require a lead time to hit distant targets but have no damage fall off. This form is more for the “poke phase” when teams deliberate what their next moves will be. The Nemesis form is meant to get up in the opposing team’s faces. The Primary Fire then becomes Pummel thanks to the two extra arms that punch waves of energy at enemies in close range. Ravenous Vortex is a fired orb that traps targets and reduces their movement speed and also pulls down low-flying enemies. Ramattra also gains a defensive ability that shields only himself and reduces incoming damage but also slows his movement speed.
Ramattra’s Ultimate is devastating to anyone unlucky to be caught near him. Annihilation creates a swarm of nanites that surround him like a force field and constantly damages enemies within. These nanites will reach out a fair distance in front of Ramattra, so he can move into the range of an intended target. Overwatch 2 developers also explain that Annihilation has a short cast time, but if it latches onto an enemy, it will be continuous. So the Ultimate can be extended for some time once there is an enemy in range.
Ramattra’s kit shares many recognizable elements from other heroes in Overwatch 2. Ravenous Vortex is similar to Sojourn’s disruptor shot, the personal shield works just like Doomfist’s, and the nanite swarm in his ultimate reaches out to sap health just like Moira’s Biotic Grasp.
The trailer also gave a glimpse at the possible new map coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 2. The final gameplay showed off Ramattra’s Ultimate in an area that looks like Nepal’s Temple map. But there is a capture point before the steps as well as a street shaped like a path big enough to push a payload through. So the next map could possibly be an Escort or Hybrid map in an alternate location of Nepal or a new location that is a sanctuary for the Omnic monks outside of Nepal.
Overwatch 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
