A Canadian soldier, Chase’s special forces unit teamed with the titular Overwatch group during the Omnic Crisis, a war that predates the events of the original game and its sequel. During the Omnic Crisis, Sojourn was able to work alongside Soldier 76, who later recruited her to join Overwatch. While working for Overwatch, Sojourn fulfilled a variety of duties and had a leadership role.

Ultimately, Sojourn decided to leave Overwatch, though it’s unclear if this happened before the group was disbanded. The video ends with Sojourn getting on a motorcycle and leaving, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see the motorcycle outfit become one of the character’s alternate skins. Sojourn’s blue eyes light up right before she puts on the motorcycle helmet, hinting at cybernetic enhancements that will undoubtedly inspire some of her abilities.
Sojourn’s origin story is one of the first big new pieces of Overwatch lore that Blizzard has released in years, discounting the various Overwatch comics. Videos like this have proven popular with Overwatch fans as they offer more insight into new characters, explaining their backstories, motivations, and giving fans an idea of what to expect from their personalities. And since the video is narrated by Sojourn, fans are also able to hear what she sounds like for the first time.
These Overwatch origin story videos are great, but there are those who may want an animated short instead. For the uninitiated, Blizzard used to release Overwatch animated shorts that provided even more details on the game’s various characters, though it hasn’t released one in quite some time. Maybe they will resume again once Overwatch 2 launches, though that remains to be seen.
As far as Sojourn goes, she will be playable in the upcoming Overwatch 2 PvP closed beta, which is set to kick off on April 26. It will be interesting to see how the Overwatch community reacts to Sojourn, and how much of an impact she has on the game’s meta.
