Fans have been waiting a long time to get a good look at Sojourn in action in the much-anticipated sequel, and their patience was finally rewarded with a recent gameplay trailer. The trailer showcases Sojourn’s weapons and abilities as she battles it out with a few Overwatch favorites. One of the returning roster seen in the trailer is Ashe, though she’s looking slightly different from what fans may remember.

Though details on many Overwatch 2 characters have already been announced, with all of them having undergone fresh redesigns, Ashe had yet to be formally reintroduced. This is the first chance fans have had to get a look at her, and the reception has been mixed. Many fans seem very positive about her updated look, but a good portion is not on board with the changes to a character they’ve grown accustomed to.
The overhaul of Ashe’s character design isn’t a drastic one. It’s principally a visual upgrade with a few other minor tweaks. The most notable changes from the classic Overwatch model are quite subtle, with little alterations to her outfit and haircut. Blizzard, who this month is opening closed PvP testing for Overwatch 2, hasn’t gone over the top with the overhaul and the character is still definitely recognizable as Ashe.
The majority of the Overwtach community seems to like the updates, with many fans offering praise. The revised look is close enough to the original design that a lot of people are accepting this version of Ashe as a logical progression, given that a good amount of time has passed since the first game. Many seem in agreement that of the redesigns that they’ve seen so far for Overwatch 2, this is easily one of the best.
Not everyone is totally onboard with Ashe’s makeover, though. The entire approach Blizzard has taken to redesign existing character models for the sequel has split opinion from the beginning, and there have already been criticisms of some other Overwatch 2 designs. Many fans don’t see the point in changing something that already works and fans enjoy, especially with the changes being so inconsequential that a lot of fans look at them as nothing more than new character skins. We still await a release date for Overwatch 2, so only time will tell what the fan consensus will be on these new-look characters once they actually get a chance to play the game for themselves.
