Reddit user Majiingilane has shared a clip of an Overwatch match they recently had in which a Reinhardt jumps off a ledge to rescue the Mercy, who proceeds to heal others as soon as they reach them. While Mercy’s ultimate ability allows her to fly around at will, the Overwatch support hero in Majiingilane’s video was likely still charging their Valkyrie. Seemingly deeming the Mercy more important to the team as enemies push the Ilios capture point, the Reinhardt ensured that others would receive heals despite being down one tank.

Majiingilane’s Overwatch clip begins with the player healing an allied Moira from behind a Reinhardt that’s blocking incoming damage for them. Although the team had notably lost the previous round on Overwatch’s Ilios map, the three characters hold the zone with a Cassidy as a D.Va flies away. Having a direct view of the Mercy, an enemy Roadhog uses their hook to pull the support hero toward them and next to a ledge, which makes the Mercy plummet. It is at this point when the Reinhardt abandons their post to save the healer by switching places with them.
The Mercy in Majiingilane’s Overwatch video is quickly able to use the Guardian Angel ability - which will remain a skill of hers in Overwatch 2 - on the falling Reinhardt to fly back up to Ilios and resume helping the rest of their team. The Roadhog that caused this altercation to take place slowly retreats as the clip concludes, while the Mercy falls back to a position behind the capture area with an allied Moira. It’s currently unclear if this push helped the team win their battle on Ilios, but it may have helped them maintain the position for a lot longer than they otherwise would have.
However, many Overwatch fans quickly took to Majiingilane’s post to let other players know that Reinhardt’s death was unnecessary and that they could have stood on the ledge instead. One of the top responses expressed enthusiasm about Mercy’s teammate Moira saying goodbye as Reinhardt fell to their death, while others gave the tank hero that’s less effective in Overwatch 2 respect for being knightly and chivalrous.
Overwatch is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
