In a recent interview, Kaplan has stated that he and his team have “frequent and ongoing discussions about” this possible feature. Kaplan further iterates that having player’s progress shared between console and PC would be “something [the team at Blizzard] would like to explore.”

Implementing this feature would seemingly do a lot of good for players, as it is fairly common for dedicated players to have Overwatch on their PC and at least one console. Having player’s progression shared between console and PC could really benefit players, as they wouldn’t have to level up separate accounts. This could also mean that skins and other rewards from loot boxes could transfer from PC to console.

However, none of this is confirmed yet and Kaplan himself said that this feature is “challenging for many reasons.” Kaplan wouldn’t go into detail as to why this was so challenging, but one could imagine it’s a pretty large technical feat. Kaplan agrees with players that it’s a “valid desire that [Overwatch] players have and [this feature] is something that the Overwatch team would love to figure out.”

One could hope that Jeff Kaplan and the Overwatch team would put this feature into the game sooner rather than later, as many new features are in talks, including a possible Battle Royale mode. Jeff Kaplan further states that “[the Overwatch team] will continue to work on it to make it happen someday, if [the Overwatch team] can get around some of the challenges that they are faced with.”

Until this happens, players will just have to settle on playing Overwatch on either their PC or console with no progress sharing quite yet. But, with the attitude Jeff Kaplan has about this possible new feature, it seems like anything can happen and players will just have to wait and see.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
