Over the years, the developer has tinkered with the algorithm that decides which plays are worthy of being highlighted as the top play of a match. Normally these tend to include moments where players quickly land a high number of kills (or entire team wipes) or save their team with large doses of healing, but in recent times, players have taken issue with the latter, as they feel that healers are getting “too many POTG’s.”

On the official Overwatch forums, user Roguebantha put together a thread compiling all of the complaints over how the POTG algorithm is currently too biased in favor of healers. Most of them specifically call out Moira and Brigitte as characters that seem to earn a disproportionate amount of POTGs without having to do much outside of basic healing and damage-dealing, all while more impressive plays from other characters go unrecognized.

Aside from simply highlighting these complaints, Roguebantha made it clear that they did this to get Blizzard’s attention, since the developer had yet to say anything about this Play of the Game-related issue. “They say the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so I’m hoping this post demonstrates to Blizzard just how squeaky this wheel is,” they wrote.

It seems that Blizzard has indeed heard the players’ squeaking, because, in a response to Roguebantha’s post, Overwatch developer Matt Whited confirmed that the team is “testing a fix” and are hoping to “resolve the issue with our next release (1.47).”

While that suggests the Play of the Game algorithm will be adjusted soon, it’s not clear when exactly Blizzard will be able to add it to the game. What’s also unclear is what else Blizzard may have in store for the 1.47 update, though it’s possible that it may mark the official launch of Overwatch’s newest hero, Echo, along with the nerfs and buffs for other characters currently being tested out in the PTR.

Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
