In an interview with Industry Gamers, Wedbush Securities analyst and video game market guru, Michael Pachter has stated that he believes Call of Duty is now the biggest mainstream franchise and has clinched the top spot from Rockstar’s million dollar baby. Oh really? The reasons for this should be fairly obvious to everyone - too obvious - but Pachter spells it out. He says that the main reason for Call of Duty’s meteoric rise in the mainstream is primarily due to how Activision has annualized the franchise....

Beginning back in 2016, just before the first Overwatch released, Blizzard has released a range of animated shorts over the years that tend to focus on a character’s backstory, while fleshing out the universe a little. The very first short, “Recall,” gave the general origins of the Overwatch team and its current status, all through the lens of Winston’s origin. With every short that releases, fans cry out for a fully-fledged Overwatch animated show, and all these years later, it might finally be the perfect time for one....

Dexerto has published a new report claiming that Blizzard is looking to release Overwatch 2 before summer 2022. Another source cited by Dexerto has said that, more specifically, the hope is for the Overwatch 2 release date to be in Q2 of 2022, which would put it in the April 1 to June 30 range. May 2022 would mark the six year anniversary of the original Overwatch’s launch, so it seems as good a time as any to release the new game, though a specific month wasn’t mentioned....

Bastion is a damage class character which was originally classified as a defense hero when Overwatch launched in 2016. The bot gave players the option of switiching between two combat modes - the mobile recon armed with an automatic rifle and stationary sentry armed with a rapid-fire minigun. Blizzard has been teasing a Roadhog nerf for some time, and now it’s finally pulled the trigger. As of the latest Overwatch 2 update, Roadhog’s ability to one-shot opponents has been significantly reduced. The impact damage from Roadhog’s hook itself has been reduced from 30 to 5, and enemies will now be 4 meters away from Roadhog instead of 3 when they’re pulled in with the hook. The damage of Roadhog’s Scrap Gun has been reduced from 6....

To unlock the Ice Queen Brigitte skin during the Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland event, players need to complete challenges that are tied to the four limited-time game modes. The four modes on offer are Mei’s Snowball Offensive, which has teams of Meis slinging snowballs at each other; Yeti Hunt, which sees four teams of Meis fight a single rampaging Winston; Freezethaw Elimination, which Blizzard describes as an Overwatch twist on Freeze tag; and finally, Snowball Deathmatch, which is exactly as its name implies....

Naturally, Overwatch players can unlock a selection of new character skins, eight of them to be exact. One of them is the Funky Baptiste skin which was shown off a couple of days ago, although three of them can only be acquired by completing weekly challenges. While Mercy has received some incredible skins in the past, fans of the support character would certainly like to see her get even more love in the cosmetic department. If artist and Overwatch fan Dana Herberg had her way, however, Mercy would also be dishing out plenty of love herself. The Overwatch free-to-play weekend will start on July 26th and end on July 30th, and the game will be available for all Overwatch players in Europe, Asia, and in the Americas from 11:00 am PDT on July 26th. For the uninitiated, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing has filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, citing numerous alleged instances of sexual harassment gender discrimination. According to Overwatch developer Josh Noh, the game’s developers have tested a cooldown reduction for D.Va’s boosters. The team tested a three second cooldown for D.Va’s boosters, which currently have a five second cooldown at the time of this writing. “It sounded kind of intimidating on paper,” Noh explained, “but in practice hasn’t been that crazy and allows D.Va to play the midfield more freely, which works well with the current 10 meter Defense Matrix range....
